Abbey Pond Cascades is a beautiful waterfall located in Middlebury, Vermont. The cascade has a total height of 80 feet and it can be found along a stream that flows from Abbey Pond. This stream flows well year-round, but it is most powerful during the spring when the snow melts. For visitors hoping to see the waterfall in full force, visit during the months of April, May, and June.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of horsetails and cascades. There are two different sections that makeup Abbey Pond Cascades – the upper and lower falls. Both drops about 40 feet. A great view of the upper falls can be seen from the trail footbridge. To see the lower falls, visitors must scramble down the hill off-trail.

Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy. The waterfall is located in the Green Mountain National Forest which features a well-marked and extensive trail system. Visitors can park right at the Abbey Pond Trailhead and then hike 0.3 miles to the falls. The waterfall trail is family-friendly and a great route to get some hiking in. Dogs are also allowed on the course and at the waterfall. Ultimately, the journey out and back to the waterfall is 0.6 miles and features 187 feet of elevation gain.
