Buttermilk Falls in Plymouth, Connecticut is one of the greatest waterfalls in the state. The waterfall has a total height of 55 feet and it can be found along Hancock Brook. Hancock Brook flows strongest during the spring months when the snow melts and also after heavy rainstorms. Although it is usually best to explore the waterfall in the spring, Buttermilk Falls in Plymouth is a wonderful place to visit year-round. The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of horsetails, cascades, and slides.
Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy. The waterfall is located in the Buttermilk Falls Nature Preserve which features a well-marked trail. Visitors can park at the trailhead along Lane Hill Road and then hike just 0.15 miles one-way to the falls. The waterfall trail is family-friendly and a great way to get some hiking in. Dogs are also allowed on the trail and through the entirety of the Buttermilk Falls Nature Preserve.
