About This Location

Cloudland Falls, nestled in the scenic Lincoln, New Hampshire, is a gem among the state's many natural wonders. As one of the tallest waterfalls in New Hampshire, it cascades over a stunning 80-foot drop. Dry Brook, the stream that feeds the waterfall, is especially powerful during the spring months, when melting snow and frequent rainstorms result in a vigorous flow, turning the waterfall into an even more magnificent spectacle. While the spring season provides an opportunity to experience the waterfall in its full glory, Cloudland Falls never fails to charm visitors, irrespective of the season. The fall months draw numerous tourists as they are treated to the mesmerizing sight of vibrant foliage beautifully complementing the cascading waters.

The waterfall's distinct appearance is characterized by its fan-type horsetail formation. As it plunges downwards, the water collects in a pool at the base. Though it's tempting to take a dip in this pool, it's too shallow and modest in size for swimming. However, on warm summer days, visitors often delight in wading through the refreshing waters, and it's a particular favorite for canine companions who revel in the coolness.

The 3.3-mile Falling Waters Trail serves as the path leading to Cloudland Falls, making it the third significant waterfall along the route. Prior to reaching Cloudland, hikers encounter Swiftwater Falls and Stairs Falls. From the parking area just off of Route 93, Cloudland Falls is precisely a mile into the trail. This trail is not just a treat for waterfall enthusiasts but is also an excellent way for families to embark on a hiking adventure. For those bringing along their furry friends, dogs are welcome both on the trail and at the waterfall, ensuring that the whole family can enjoy the experience. Be sure to also check out Swiftwater Falls and Stairs Falls which are located along the trail and closer to the trailhead than Cloudland Falls. This is an epic 3-for-1 waterfall hike that takes only about an hour to complete!

Parking for the trail is convenient, with a large paved lot available at the Old Bridle Path Trailhead right off I-93. For those who find this lot full or want an alternate parking option, the Lafayette Place Campground across I-93 offers additional spaces. A unique feature is the underground highway tunnel connecting the campground to the trailhead, ensuring safe access for hikers. Whether you're an avid hiker, a nature lover, or simply looking for a tranquil spot to relax, Cloudland Falls in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest offers an experience like no other.
