The beach derives its name from the Crosby family, one of Brewster's most prominent and historically significant families. Nathan Crosby, a former tanner's apprentice, became a successful entrepreneur and amassed a fortune in Chicago, primarily through distilling alcohol. Returning home to Brewster with his newfound wealth and a wife 20 years his junior, Nathan Crosby constructed the splendid Crosby Mansion on the site of his former residence. This mansion still stands today, offering tours that allow visitors to delve into the rich history of the area.
