Dog’s Head Falls is a small little waterfall located in Johnson, Vermont. The waterfall has a total height of about 5 feet and it can be found along the Lamoille River. Lamoille River features a very large watershed year-round, which makes the falls a nice place to visit any day of the year.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of cascades. There are some great pools at the base of the falls, but swimming is not allowed because of the very strong currents. What makes this waterfall extremely beautiful is the wonderful rock formations surrounding it. There are large cliffs one both sides of the falls which jut out into the river.

Accessing the waterfall is super easy. The waterfall is located on property owned by the town of Johnson and there is a short trail to the falls. Visitors can park in the dedicated parking area along East River Road and then walk less than a tenth of a mile to the falls. The waterfall trail is family-friendly and dog-friendly too. Use caution if you choose to walk on the rocks near the waterfall because they can be rough and slippery too.

Additionally, there is a small waterfall visit downstream which is often called Lower Dog’s Head Falls or Sloping Falls. This waterfall is located about 0.40 miles away and can be accessed by walking or riding on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail.
