About This Location

Nestled in Hart’s Location, New Hampshire, within the breathtaking expanse of Crawford Notch State Park in the White Mountain National Forest, Flume Cascade stands as a majestic testament to the natural wonders of the region. This stunning waterfall, with a remarkable total drop of approximately 300 feet, ranks among the tallest waterfalls in the state of New Hampshire.

Fueled by a small yet unnamed brook, Flume Cascade reaches its zenith during the spring, when the cascading snowmelt swells its waters, and after intense rainstorms, echoing the resilient voice of nature. While spring offers the optimal conditions to witness the cascade in its full glory, Flume Cascade beckons visitors year-round, each season casting its unique charm. Autumn, in particular, is a favorite among visitors, as the White Mountains adorn themselves with a vibrant tapestry of fall foliage, enveloping the waterfall in a kaleidoscope of colors.

The waterfall descends in a distinctive formation, characterized by cascades and small plunges, creating a captivating visual spectacle for those fortunate enough to behold it.

What sets Flume Cascade apart is its accessibility. Conveniently situated just off Crawford Notch Road (Route 302) around the 43.8-mile marker, the cascade is a mere stone's throw away from the road. A well-positioned parking lot on the opposite side of the street provides easy access, inviting visitors to follow the sidewalk and enjoy an unobstructed view from the base. Adventurous souls can venture further by scrambling up the rocks around the cascade, although caution is paramount due to the steep and potentially slippery terrain.

The allure of Flume Cascade extends a warm welcome to four-legged companions, as dogs are permitted to explore the area, provided they remain leashed. However, crossing Crawford Notch Road demands vigilant attention due to its popularity and the presence of many unfamiliar drivers, often tourists navigating the picturesque surroundings.

Flume Cascade stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of nature's grandeur and accessibility, inviting all who venture to Crawford Notch to witness its awe-inspiring beauty. Whether framed by the lush greens of spring, the vibrant hues of fall, or the pristine serenity of winter, Flume Cascade remains a perennial jewel in the heart of the White Mountains.
