About This Location

Gerry’s Falls is a beautiful and seasonal waterfall located in Windsor, Vermont. The waterfall has a total height of about 100 feet and it can be found along Mountain Brook. Sadly, Mountain Brook is a pretty seasonal water source that typically features just a small amount of flowing water. That said, during the spring when the snow is thawing, the brook can be found with a good amount of flow. For this reason, it is usually best to visit the falls during the months of May and June to see the falls in peak conditions.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of cascades, slides, and plunges. It can be found in the Ascutney State Park which features a well-marked extensive trail system. Visitors seeking out the waterfall can park in a small gravel parking area along Ascutney State Park where the Windsor Trailhead is located. Hike the Windsor Trail for 0.90 miles to reach the falls.

Ultimately, the waterfall trail is family-friendly and a great route to get some hiking in. Dogs are also allowed on the trail and through the entirety of the state park. In total, the hike is 1.8 miles out-and-back and it features 790 feet of elevation gain.

The waterfall is named after George Nelson Gerry who was a local resident and lover of the outdoors. There is a plaque along the trail with his name and a quote stating “The truth at the heart of nature, the light that is not of day, why seek it afar forever, when it cannot be lifted away.”
