About This Location
Gorge Cascade Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in Hamden, Connecticut. The waterfall has a total height of 28 feet and it can be found along an unnamed stream. This stream flows strongest during spring when the snow melts and after heavy rainstorms. Although it is best to explore the waterfall in the spring, Gorge Cascade Falls is a great spot to visit year-round.
The waterfall drops in two distinct sections. The lower falls drops about 20 feet and the upper falls drops about 8 feet. Horsetails, fans, and slides can be viewed.
Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy. The waterfall is located in the Sleeping Giant State Park which features a well-marked trail system. Visitors can park along Turtle Avenue and then hike 0.25 miles to the lower falls and another 0.20 miles to the upper falls. In total, the hike is about 1 mile out-and-back to see both falls. The waterfall trail is family-friendly and a great way to get some hiking in. Dogs on leashes are also allowed on the trail and through the entirety of Sleeping Giant State Park.
