Lower Ammonoosuc Falls is a lovely little waterfall and swimming hole located in Carroll, New Hampshire. The waterfall has a total height of 15 feet and can be found along the Ammonoosuc River. The river features a solid watershed year-round, making the waterfall lovely to visit during any season. In the summer it is a popular swimming hole for locals and tourists hoping to beat the heat. In the fall, photographers visit the falls to capture the rushing water and the leaves changing colors. The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation that features many long cascades and a big pool at its base.

Accessing the waterfall is super easy. The waterfall is located in the White Mountain National Forest which features many well-marked and well-maintained trails. Visitors can park at the dedicated lower falls parking area at the end of Lower Falls Road. From the parking area, the waterfall is just a quarter-mile away. Ultimately, to hike out and back, the journey is just a half-mile and features essentially no elevational gain. The waterfall trail is family-friendly and a great way to get some hiking in. Dogs are also allowed on the route.

If you do choose to swim at the falls during the summer, be extremely careful. Many injuries and fatalities have occurred at the Upper Ammonoosuc Falls where swimming is now banned. Be safe and have fun!
