Marshall Street Boston

Description

Marshall Street is a beautiful stone street located in Boston, Massachusetts. The street is named after Boston resident Thomas Marshall who held many careers throughout his life including being a shoemaker, selectman, and ferryman. Marshall believed that a shortcut between Union Street and Hanover Street would be beneficial to the city, so in 1652 he donated the land to have Marshall Street built. While many other streets have been modernized and widened, Marshall Street remains narrow and unchanged from the 17th century. A portion of the Freedom Trail goes through Marshall Street. The street also borders the legendary Union Oyster House which is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the United States.
