The park, which was once home to grist and saw mills between the 18th and early 20th centuries, has evolved into a popular destination known for its waterfalls, vibrant flower blooms, and a variety of recreational activities.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Moore State Park Historic District in 2004. Its reference number is 04000535. The park showcases remnants of its industrial past, including stone mill foundations and a meticulously restored sawmill. Eames Pond, waterfalls, mill chutes, and the abundant presence of azaleas, rhododendrons, and mountain laurel add to the park's allure. Managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Moore State Park seamlessly blends history and nature.

The land within the park was once home to several 18th- and 19th-century watermills powered by Turkey Hill Brook, with cascading waterfalls measuring an impressive 90 feet over a 400-foot run. The historical remnants of the mill village, including a triphammer, quarry, schoolhouse, and tavern, provide glimpses into the area's industrial past. As the 20th century dawned, the property transitioned into a private estate, eventually becoming part of the state park.

In 2003, the park took part in a noteworthy conservation effort, collaborating with the American Chestnut Foundation to create a large plantation of experimentally bred chestnut trees. This initiative aimed to reintroduce blight-resistant American chestnut trees to the United States, showcasing the park's commitment to ecological preservation.

Recreational opportunities abound within Moore State Park, including canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking, cross-country skiing, and picnicking. The park hosts interpretive programs and concerts during the season, enriching visitors' experiences with educational and cultural offerings.

Visitors can explore the park from sunrise to sunset, with a small parking lot conveniently located off Mill Street accommodating approximately 15 cars. A short walk from the parking lot leads to the Old Sawmill, providing an intriguing glimpse into the park's industrial heritage.
