About This Location

Old City Falls is a spectacular 45-foot waterfall located in Strafford, Vermont. The waterfall drops in a beautiful formation consisting of a plunge followed by a series of cascades. Old City Brook flows through the waterfall and it features pretty solid water flow year-round. That said, the flow truly peaks during the spring when the snow thaw occurs. This makes the months of April, May, and June optimal for explorers hoping to catch the falls roaring at peak conditions. Ultimately though, the waterfall is truly a wonderful spot to visit any day of the year.

Although spring can be a great time to visit, summer is another popular season. This is a popular time because swimming at the falls is great. There are two wonderful swimming pools which are deep and clear. There is also a wonderful hidden gem at this swimming hole which was formed by the waterfall’s steep shelf. Water flows over this shelf and plunges down into the upper pool. When the water flow is low, visitors can walk under the shelf and enjoy the water flowing in front of them. It’s truly like a natural water park!

Accessing the waterfall is super easy. The waterfall is located in the Old City Falls Natural Area which is a great small park. There is a dedicated parking area located just off the road. From the parking area, visitors only need to walk about 100 feet to the falls. Ultimately, this is a great kid-friendly and dog-friendly spot to explore!
