Old Rootville Road Falls

Description

Old Rootville Road Falls is a beautiful seasonal waterfall located in Manchester, Vermont. The waterfall drops about 70 feet in total and it can be found along an unnamed tributary of Bromley Creek. This stream is pretty seasonal and often only flows well for a few days of the year. The watershed typically peaks during the springtime when the snow is melting and running off into the stream. For this reason, it is recommended to visit Old Rootville Road Falls during the months of April, May, and June to see them in peak condition.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of slides, horsetails, and a plunge. There is a large slide which is often the most photographed section of this waterfall. That said, each of the drops is beautiful.

Accessing the waterfall is quick and pretty easy. The waterfall is located in the iconic Green Mountain National Forest which features a well-marked and expansive trail system. Visitors can park at the end of Rootvilel Road in Manchester and then hike to the falls. Begin by hiking along Old Rootville Road for about a 1/5 of a mile. At this point, the falls can be heard and seen. Some bushwhacking is required to get down to the falls considering they are off the trail. Although there is no established trail for the falls, they are easy to find and get to.

Ultimately, exploring this waterfall is a great family-friendly and dog-friendly activity! The hike out and back is just 0.50 miles and features 112 feet of elevation gain.
