Description
Shelter Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in Mansfield, Connecticut. The waterfall has a total height of 8 feet and it drops in a series of cascades weaving through large rocks. It can be found right along the Cedar Swamp Brook. The brook flows strongest during spring when the snow melts and after heavy rainstorms. This is a seasonal waterfall considering the watershed in the summer is usually little. That said, the waterfall can still be fun to visit year-round.
Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy. The waterfall is located in Shelter Falls Park which features a well-marked trail system. Visitors can park on the shoulder of Birch Road and then hike just 0.20 miles one-way to the falls. The waterfall trail is family-friendly and a great way to get some hiking in. Dogs are also allowed on the trail and through the entirety of the park.
