About This Location

Stevens Glen is a wonderful waterfall located in Richmond, Massachusetts in Berkshire County. The waterfall can be found on the eastern border of the 130-acre Stevens Glen Park which is owned by the Berkshire Natural Resources Council. There is a well-maintained 1-mile-loop trail that takes visitors to the waterfall from the trailhead. At some points, the trail does get rather steep, but ultimately it is rated as easy. Along the way to the waterfall, visitors can enjoy the babbling brooks, small waterfalls, multiple wooden bridges, rustic benches, 100-foot white pine trees, and more!

Stevens Glen itself is a 40-foot waterfall that consists mainly of horsetails. It is fueled by the Lenox Mountain Brook which flows strongest during the spring but can have a steady flow after rainstorms. The waterfall drops within a gorge, so views are limited from the rocks. Thankfully, the Berkshire Natural Resources Council built a small observation deck that offers visitors a wonderful view of the falls. Visitors are required to only view the waterfall from this deck, due to the dangerous rocks in the area.

The waterfall is named after Romanzo Stevens who owned the property during the 19th century. He was a local farmer and was turned into an entrepreneur when he noticed how beautiful the land he owned was. Stevens decided to transform his property into an attraction by creating benches, bridges, and trails through the 130 acres. He charges 25 cents for visitors to access the park. In the 1990s, the land was donated to the Berkshire Natural Resources Council which has transformed it into a wonderful public park.
