Description
Tannery Falls in Savoy, Massachusetts is one of the most sought-after waterfalls in the state. Anyone who loves exploring waterfalls should put Tannery Falls high on their list. The waterfall is located in the Savoy Mountain State Forest in The Berkshires along Ross Brook and Parker Brook. The waterfall is made up of several different drops with the largest being 60 feet and 80 feet. Visitors can enjoy beautiful plunges, cascades, and slides. It is best to visit during the fall when the snow is melting, but it honestly is a great waterfall year-round.
When it comes to getting to Tannery Falls, there are a few different options. The quickest way to access the waterfall is to drive along Tannery Road for about 0.75 miles and parking near the waterfall in a dirt parking lot. Tannery Road is an unpaved road and it is recommended that you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. In the winter, the road can be challenging and impassable at times. That said, the waterfall is only located a few hundred feet from the Tannery Road parking lot.
The second option to access Tannery Falls requires more of a hike. Visitors can park in a dedicated lot off New State Road within Savoy Mountain State Forest. A few steps from the parking area is the trailhead for the Tannery Falls Trail. The Tannery Falls Trail is a 4.8-mile loop trail that is rated moderate. It consists of hiking along the Tannery Trail and Tannery Road. Most people finish the trail in just about 2 hours.
