About This Location
Tartia-Engel Falls, also known as Tartia Falls or Engel Falls, is a beautiful waterfall located in East Hampton, Connecticut. The main waterfall has a total height of 20 feet and there is an upper falls which drops about 5 feet. The falls can be found along Safstrom Brook. Safstrom Brook flows strongest during spring when the snow melts and after heavy rainstorms. Although it is best to explore the waterfall in the spring when the brook is flowing strongest, Tartia-Engel Falls is a great spot to visit year-round. The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of horsetails and cascades.
Accessing the waterfall is relatively super easy. The 20-foot main falls can be seen right from Tartia Road in East Hampton. Visitors can pull over on the shoulder of the road to admire the falls and take pictures. The upper falls are just a few hundred feet upstream and they are located on private land. That said, the private landowner has long allowed for respectful explorers to check out the upper falls. Please be extremely caring when hiking on this private land because the permission can be revoked at anytime.
The waterfall is a great place for people of all ages and abilities to explore. Due to its roadside location, everyone is able to enjoy the beautiful cascade.
