Description
Twenty Foot Hole is a great waterfall with a spectacular swimming hole located in Reading, Vermont. The waterfall can be found along the North branch of the Black River and it features several small drops. The tallest drop is 5 feet and it cascades into a picturesque pool. This pool is deep, clear, and big. It is known as one of the greatest swimming holes in all of Vermont.
When it comes to accessibility, getting to Twenty Foot Hole is pretty easy. The waterfall is located just off Tyson Road (aka Town Highway 1) and it can be found on land owned by the Vermont River Conservancy. The Conservancy maintains the land and welcomes to the public to explore and enjoy it. Visitors can park in the dirt pullover area along the road and then walk across the street and down the trail to the waterfall and swimming hole. The walk to Twenty Foot Hole is about 0.1 miles one-way. There are a few smaller waterfalls and pools located further downstream, but they are not very accessible. It is best to stick to the Twenty Foot Hole which is upstream and simple to find.
If you do choose to visit Twenty Foot Hole during the summer, be sure to head over early or on a weekday. This spot gets busy on nice weekend days as locals seek to beat the heat.
