About This Location

Upper Tubs is a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole located in Pownal, Vermont. The waterfall drops about 40 feet in total and it can be found along Wash Tub Brook. Wash Tub Brook is a pretty seasonal water source and it often flows strongest during spring when the snow melts and after heavy rainstorms. Considering the water flow is often greatest in the spring, the months of May and June are recommended for visitors. That said, Upper Tubs is a great site to visit year-round.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of cascades and slides. There are several different drops that make up the 40-foot waterfall. Additionally, there are a few pools found along the brook. There are two pools which are great for swimming.

Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy and quick. Visitors seeking out the waterfall can park along Fowlers Way at the Tubs Path Trailhead. After parking, walk 0.25 miles along the Tubs Path to the main waterfall. It should be noted that this trail and waterfall are likely located on some private property. As of 2022, there are not any “no trespassing” signs. Respectful visitors seem welcome!
