About This Location

Winniweta Falls is an incredible waterfall located in Jackson, New Hampshire. The waterfall has a total height of over 70 feet and can be found along Miles Brook. Miles Brook flows well year-round, but it is most powerful during the spring when snow is melting. Considering the water flow is often substantial in the spring, the months of March, April, and May are recommended for visitors hoping to see the falls roaring. That said, Winniweta Falls is a great place to visit year-round.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of cascades, small plunges, horsetails, and slides. There are two main sections that make up the waterfall. The lower section is 40 feet and the upper section is about 20 feet. For visitors looking to potentially swim, the best pool is at the base of the lower drop.

Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy. The waterfall is located in the White Mountain National Forest which features a well-marked and expansive trail system. Visitors can park along NH 16 at the trailhead and then hike exactly 1 mile to the falls. It should be noted that the trail does cross the Ellis River during the first tenth of a mile. Be sure to bring a towel or water shoes for this. Aside from the river section, the trail is family-friendly and dog-friendly too! Ultimately, the journey out and back is 2 miles and features 384 feet of elevation gain.
