About This Location

Wollaston Beach, gracing the shores of Quincy, Massachusetts, stands as the largest public beach in the Boston Harbor, offering approximately 2.3 miles (3.7 kilometers) of pristine shoreline. Its picturesque location along Quincy Shore Drive in North Quincy, which was thoughtfully constructed to provide access to this coastal gem, has deep historical roots too. Notably at its northern end, where the Native American historical site, Moswetuset Hummock, serves as a testament to the region's indigenous heritage, once hosting tribal councils of the Moswetuset Sac'hem (Chief).

A prominent feature of Wollaston Beach is its sturdy seawall, designed to withstand the ebb and flow of coastal tides. Seasonal restaurants dot the promenade, drawing crowds with their delectable battered seafood offerings, making weekends here particularly popular. Parking is abundant along the beachfront promenade, ensuring easy access for visitors.

During the summer months, Wollaston Beach transforms into a hub of activity, attracting sunbathers, beachcombers, and those seeking a serene spot to relish the coastal vistas. The panoramic views from the beach encompass Boston, South Boston, Squantum, Houghs Neck, Nut Island, and even the Boston Harbor Islands. Unfortunately, swimming opportunities are sometimes restricted due to water quality concerns. Tests frequently detect high levels of enterococcus, rendering the water temporarily unsuitable for bathing.

Wollaston Beach also holds a special place in the hearts of sailing enthusiasts, with two prestigious yacht clubs situated along its shores. Adjacent to the commercial Marina Bay, the southern end of the beach is a haven for fishing activities. The Squantum Yacht Club, founded in 1898, and the Wollaston Yacht Club boast piers that extend from their clubhouses right onto the beach. These clubs host annual sailing tournaments, adding to the rich maritime tradition of Wollaston Beach. Whether you're looking to explore its historical significance, savor its culinary delights, or simply soak in the scenic beauty, Wollaston Beach beckons with its unique blend of heritage and natural charm.
