12 Most Instagrammable Vermont Covered Bridges

Vermont is home to many covered bridges and each one is unique and beautiful in its own way. There is something so magical about covered bridges. They are signs of a time gone by when things were made by hand with quality materials. To be honest, this list was not easy to create because each covered bridge in Vermont is an amazing sight to see. That said, here are 12 of my personal favorites. They are organized alphabetically.

Burt Henry Covered Bridge (Bennington, VT)

The Burt Henry Covered Bridge, also known as the Henry Covered Bridge or Henry Bridge, is a beautiful 127-foot covered bridge in Bennington, VT. The Town lattice truss bridge stretches River Road across the Waloomsac River. The bridge was built in 1840 but rebuilt in 1989 to handle modern-day traffic. In 1973, the bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hall Covered Bridge (Rockingham, VT)

Hall Covered Bridge is a beautiful 120-foot long covered bridge located in Rockingham, Vermont. The bridge was originally built in 1867 but was destroyed in 1980 and rebuilt in 1982. The rebuilt bridge was completed by Milton Graton and Sons who were serious about making an authentic replacement using traditional methods and materials. Today, the bridge carries traffic from Hall Bridge Road over Saxtons River and it is a beautiful photography location.

Middle Covered Bridge

Middle Covered Bridge is one of the most photographed spots in Woodstock, VT and it can be found just off The Green park. The 139-foot bridge features a beautiful Town lattice and carries Mountain Ave over the Ottauquechee River. Although the bridge was only built a few decades ago, its builders were meticulous about using traditional methods and materials to create the bridge. Prior to the covered bridge, there was an iron bridge.

Northfield Falls Covered Bridge (Northfield, VT)

The Northfield Falls Covered Bridge, also called the Station Covered Bridge, is a wooden covered bridge that carries Cox Brook Road across the Dog River in Northfield, Vermont. The Northfield Falls Covered Bridge was completed in 1892 and is the oldest of 5 covered bridges that stand in Northfield. Additionally, Northfield Falls Covered Bridge is the longest covered bridge in Northfield as it stretches 138 feet.

Paper Mill Village Bridge (Bennington, VT)

Paper Mill Village Bridge is another covered bridge in Bennington, Vermont. The bridge stretches 125 feet over the Waloomsac River and it was built in the Town lattice truss design. The historic bridge has remained basically untouched since its completion in 1889. In 1973, the bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can walk down by the river to grab a photo of the small dam and the covered bridge – a very cool composition, as shown above!

Quechee Covered Bridge

  • Town: Quechee, Vermont
  • County: Windsor
  • Year Built: 1970
  • Length: 85 feet long
  • Style: Multiple Kingpost truss

The original Quechee Covered Bridge was built in 1870, but sadly that bridge was destroyed by a flood caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011. The bridge was a lifeline for locals and visitors as it connected Quechee Village to US Route 4. A new bridge was rebuilt at the same site in 2012 and the bridge was back and better than ever. The current Quechee Covered Bridge is nearly identical to the original, but it is 15 feet longer than the original which will minimize the risks of being impacted by future floods. Also, the covered bridge is steps from Simon Pearce’s turbine-powered glassblowing studio and fine riverfront restaurant! Two must-see locations!

Silk Road Covered Bridge (Bennington, VT)

Bennington is truly home to some amazing covered bridges and Silk Road Covered Bridge is yet another to check out! The beautiful red Town lattice truss bridge stretches 88 feet over the Wallomsac River. The covered bridge is the oldest standing bridge in Bennington as it was built in 1840 and has only had a few repairs since opening.

Slaughter House Covered Bridge (Northfield, Vermont)

The Slaughter House Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that carries Slaughterhouse Road across the Dog River in Northfield, Vermont. The Queenpost truss bridge is one of the most famous covered bridges in all of Vermont thanks to its beautiful design and many photography angles.

Taftsville Covered Bridge (Woodstock, VT)

The Taftsville Covered Bridge is a timber-framed covered bridge that spans 189 feet over the Ottauquechee River. The bridge is located in Woodstock, Vermont within the village of Taftsville. Taftsville Covered Bridge is one of the oldest covered bridges in the nation as it was completed in 1836. This Vermont covered bridge has survived many storms in recent years and remains in good shape which is a true testament to the quality of the materials and methods used to create the bridge nearly 200 years ago.

Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge (Northfield, Vermont)

The Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that crosses Cox Brook on Cox Brook Road in Northfield, Vermont. It is one of five surviving 19th-century covered bridges in the town, and one of three on Cox Brook Road. The Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge only measures about 51 feet long, but its size makes it very unique and beautiful to photograph.

Upper Falls Covered Bridge (Perkinsville, VT)

The Upper Falls Covered Bridge, also known as the Downers Covered Bridge, is a beautiful 120-foot bridge that spans the Black River in Perkinsville. The bridge was built in 1840 and features a lovely Town lattice truss design.  It is unique among Vermont’s many remaining covered bridges for the Greek Revival elements of its gables, and for the very good condition of the remaining stone abutment, which has expertly laid stonework.

West Dummerston Covered Bridge (Ferrisburgh, VT)

The West Dummerston Covered Bridge is a beautiful historic bridge that was built in 1872. The bridge is well-known for being the longest covered bridge in the state of Vermont as it stretches 280 feet over the West River in Ferrisburgh. The sheer length of the bridge and the beautiful Two-span Town lattice truss design make it a must-visit location for photographers!
