About This Location

Lincoln Covered Bridge is a beautiful covered bridge located in Woodstock, Vermont. The bridge was built in 1877 and was significantly rehabilitated by the Vermont Agency of Transportation in 1989. The bridge spans 136 feet long and is about 18 feet wide. It is currently open to pedestrians and cars.

Two arch trusses serve as the bridge’s main structural support, and they are shielded by a post-and-beam building with a metal standing seam roof and vertical board siding. The trusses are an adaptation of the Pratt truss, with laminated arches supporting the deck using a mix of timber and iron verticals, as well as iron cross bracing. One of the few known instances of a wooden Pratt truss bridge in the United States is the Lincoln Covered Bridge.

On August 28, 1973, this covered bridge received the honor of being listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources. The NRHP Reference number for Lincoln Covered Bridge is 73000212.
