About This Location

Sterling Falls Gorge is a beautiful hidden waterfall located in Stowe, Vermont. The waterfall has a total height of over 100 feet and can be found along Sterling Brook. Sterling Brook is a pretty seasonal water source. It typically flows strongest during the spring when the snow is thawing and running into the brook. For this reason, the falls are best to visit during the months of April, May, and June to truly see them at peak conditions. That said, the waterfall is a wonderful location to visit any day of the year.

The falls are made up of a variety of different formations including plunges, horsetails, and cascades. No individual drop is more than around 10 feet tall, but in total, the drop is well over 100 feet. There are some nice pools found along the brook, but sadly they are not accessible.

Accessing the waterfall is super easy and quick. The waterfall is located in Sterling Forest which features a well-marked and well-maintained trail system. Visitors can park in the dedicated parking lot and then hike the Sterling Falls Gorge Trail to enjoy the waterfall. This is an interpretative trail that features several informational signs describing the history, geology, and lore of the Sterling Falls Gorge. Ultimately, the trail out and back is 0.60 miles and features just 100 feet of elevation gain.

In conclusion, this is a great family-friendly, and dog-friendly place to explore!
