Thoreau Falls is a captivating and remote waterfall located in Lincoln, New Hampshire. The waterfall has a total height of about 80 feet and can be found along the North Fork of the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River. This water source is relatively seasonal. It flows strongest during the spring when the snow melts so for visitors hoping to see the falls at full force, visiting during the months of March, April, and May is recommended. That said, Thoreau Falls is a truly magical place to visit any day of the year.

The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of mainly cascades and slides. It is a long-sloping waterfall that is a joy to photograph. Speaking of taking photos, be sure to capture the scenic vistas offered at that waterfall.

Accessing the waterfall requires a fair amount of hiking. The waterfall is located in the White Mountain National Forest which features an extensive and well-maintained trail system. Visitors seeking out the Thoreau Falls can park at the Wiley House located just off Crawford Notch Road and then hike 5 miles to the falls. Ultimately, the hike out and back is 10 miles and it consists of 2,073 feet of elevation gain. It is not an easy hike, but seeking the waterfall is well worth every step!

Parking is available at the Wiley House located just off Crawford Notch Road which is also known as NH 302. There are parking areas on both sides of the road.
