Willoughby Falls is a wonderful roadside waterfall located in Barton, Vermont. The waterfall has a total height of 15 feet and it can be found along the Willoughby River. Fortunately, the Willoughby River features pretty strong year-round, although its flow does often peak during the spring when the snow is melting. That said, anytime between May and October is optimal for visiting. Each season brings new colors and water flow.

The waterfall itself drops via a wonderful series of cascades. There are also a few small pools. Many visitors enjoy walking around on the rocks. The swimming isn’t great at Willoughby Falls, but some do enjoy it. Fishing is also a popular activity at the waterfall.

One of the greatest aspects of this waterfall is its accessibility. The waterfall is located in the Germain A. Choiniere Willoughby River Access Area which features a well-maintained parking area and trail. The parking area can be found along East Street, just a few feet north of the bridge spanning over the Willoughby River. After parking in the lot, the waterfall is less than 200 feet away. The trail to the waterfall is great for people of all ages and abilities. Some of the falls can even be seen right from the roadside. Dogs are welcome to explore the waterfall too, but they must be on a leash.

Parking Notes:
There is a dedicated parking area for the river access area located just north of the falls. The parking area is located along East Street and it features about a dozen parking space. Parking here is free and the waterfall is just a few steps away.
