About This Location

Fall of Song is a stunning waterfall located in Moultonborough, New Hampshire right near the Castle in the Clouds mansion. The waterfall has a total height of 40 feet and can be seen along Shannon Brook. Shannon Brook flows strongest during spring when the snow melts and after heavy rainstorms. Considering the water flow is often excellent in the spring, the months of March, April, and May are recommended for visitors. That said, Fall of Song is a terrific spot to visit year-round. The waterfall itself drops in a unique formation consisting of a single 40-foot plunge.

Accessing the waterfall is relatively easy. The waterfall is located in the Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area which features a well-marked trail system. Visitors can park in the lot just off Old Mountain Road (NH-171) and then walk across the road to hike the Shannon Brook Trail and Brook Walk Trail to the falls. The total distance on the trail is 1.04 miles one-way. Ultimately, the journey out and back is 2.08 miles and features 502 feet of elevation gain. The trail is rated as easy. It is family-friendly and dogs are allowed.

Brook Walk Trail is one of the best paths to see waterfalls in the state. Although Fall of Song is the highlight, there are several other named cascades. These include Emerald Pool Falls, Harriets Cascades, Bridal Veil Falls, Whittier Falls, Roaring Falls, and Twin Falls. Bridal Veil Falls is the second highest rated, behind Fall of Song.
